Just a Girl….

I’ve admitted multiple times that I’m struggling with my workout routine, which is basically non-existent.  It’s a walk here and there, some weights or floor exercises at night but nothing consistent.  I’m hoping this is the week all of that changes.

I was reminded of some motivating factors.  I have to do training for my job, some of which is physical so while I don’t have to be an Olympian I do need to be in decent shape.  I also heard I may need a physical before the training so I want to make sure I make it through that with flying colors.  A pair of jeans that fit very comfortably before were a bit on the snug side and I flirted with a guy.

Yep, I’m going to get all girly and shallow for a minute.  My inspiration to throw on my sneakers and jump on the treadmill tonight was a conversation with a cute guy….

Living in a college town the selection of eligible bachelors were often on the young side and since I wasn’t really feeling the whole cougar thing I struggled to meet guys, especially guys my age who were at similar places in their lives (also I didn’t really put myself out there).  In this new city and new job I’m meeting more people who I have things in common with because we’re all around the same age, toward the end of my last job I felt like the Mom of the group so getting out of that mentality is very refreshing but I have a whole other post planned on age that was inspired by this one.

I’m trying to stay focused on the cute guy and working out for this one.

I’m going to try an every other day workout schedule, so tomorrow I’ll be back on the treadmill and tonight I’m going to do some weights and floor exercises.  I’m trying to get more serious about my commitment to working out because I really did feel great last night when I was done.  I need to keep that feeling in mind whenever I’m thinking about skipping a workout because it’s such a great sense of accomplishment and joy.

I’ve got to wrap up this post and curl my lashes one more time before I head out to work because you never know who you’re going to meet and I look forward to finding more motivation 😉  Have a great Wednesday!!  Working Wardrobe Wednesday will be back next week!

Meal Plan Monday

I usually have an image for Meal Plan Monday but James the cat was so helpful writing the list last week I thought he should be featured 🐱

It’s Monday!!!  Actually all the exclamation points are because Monday is over 😀  but unfortunately for me it means Tuesday is up next.  For some reason Tuesdays are my bad days but I’m trying to remain optimistic.  I faced a hurdle I knew I was going to face today but didn’t quite make it over so the problem will carry over into tomorrow but it’s all learning experiences.

I constantly remind myself that if this is the job I really want I have to overcome my fears and skydive out of my comfort zone into the unknown but this is a topic for another post so it’s onto the food.

IMG_9914First I’m going to share my latest snack obsession, apples with cinnamon.

One morning I sliced up an apple and threw it in a plastic bag then remembered I scraped the last bit of peanut butter out of the jar the day before but I didn’t want a plain apple.

I sprinkled some cinnamon into the bag and shook it up.  Instant snack.  I recommend refrigerating them for a little bit before eating, I found I like them better chilled.

I say it’s a snack obsession because once I find something I like I will eat it until basically I can’t stand it anymore so I’ll let you guys know when I’m onto the next snack but for now it’s all about apples.  I think the snack is perfect for fall.

End of last week I made slow cooker lentil soup.  I lost the recipe I’d used before so I looked up a recipe online then I did what I (and the rest of my family) do best, I decided to wing it 😉

It came out pretty darn good and is one of those dishes that was almost better as leftovers.  Hearty, filling, hot, perfect for the chilly fall weather.  Diced tomatoes, ground beef, celery, carrots, onions, beef stock, cumin, chili powder, garlic, and of course, lentils.

FullSizeRender (31)It made a big pot of soup so I decided to freeze about half because otherwise I think I would’ve been throwing away some soup at the end of the week.  You can only eat soup so many days of the week even if it is delicious 😀

I think I might start up a trend of doing a slow cooker meal over the weekend.  The recipes are usually easy, low maintenance, and make the house smell delicious all day.

My only groceries this week will be fruit, rice, and spaghetti.  I’ve been on the frivolous side with my spending so I’m reigning it back in and enforcing a strict cash only policy for myself but that’s another subject for another post.

Wishing everyone the best of weeks!  I’m trying to get into a writing schedule to post more consistently during the week so we’ll see how it goes.

Monday is over but I had Cream of Wheat for lunch because I forgot to pack something but thankfully I keep extra provisions in my desk in case of a lunch emergency.  Dinner was leftover lentil soup.

Responsible, Healthy Grown up

My restful weekend has unfortunately hit a few snags.

Friday night I was awakened at 2AM by partying neighbors, a girl cackling loudly like a drunken seagull, a guy trying to rap, another girl constantly proclaiming how drunk she is even though I can’t even see her but I think it should be apparent without the proclamation.

As I lay awake listening to their drunken conversations I couldn’t help but think this was Karmic payback for all the neighbors I’d kept awake during my partying days.  It was annoying but I gave them some time to quiet down but if it would’ve been a weeknight security would have been called within the first 15 minutes.  Thankfully after less than an hour all was quiet once again.

Last night I went to bed early but woke up in the middle of the night because my stomach was angry.  I won’t go into details but my stomach was rumbling and grumbling like a thunderstorm.  I’m still not feeling 100% today and am too scared to eat anything beyond crackers so I’m trying to decide if maybe it was a mild case of food poisoning or just a 24-hour flu.  I know if I’m not feeling better soon I’ll be planning a trip to the doctor.

This illness is forcing me to do what I’ve been procrastinating about doing since I moved, which is finding a doctor.  I realized last night as I thought I might be dying that I don’t have a clue where the nearest hospital is located.  Obviously if it’s a serious emergency an ambulance could come pick me up but to avoid over paying for a ride to the hospital I’ll drive myself if possible.

I took the time to find a couple of veterinary options but have neglected my own health so right after this post I’m going to be researching doctors, optometrists, and dentists.  I’m running out of contacts.  I’m convinced all my teeth have cavities.  I haven’t been in for a check up in almost a year.

It’s time to be a grown up (something I try to avoid) and check in with people who can help make sure I’m staying healthy.

On a more random note, I have no couch and I’ve been surviving without but realize I really miss having a couch.  Luckily my friend is going to loan me her couch.  Her boyfriend is moving in and part of the compromise is using his couch so her couch was on it’s way to a storage unit so she was kind enough to offer it to me.  I thought maybe they would bring it by yesterday so I could spend today lounging on my new loaner couch but they should be bringing it by today…just not sure when but I’m not complaining.  It’s a free couch with free delivery so I’ll be patient.

It’s on to research for me.  Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend and hopefully I’ll soon be posting pictures of my new couch!
