The Drawing Board

I have a big whiteboard at work.  It’s primarily there for notes and to keep myself organized with work tasks but I made the grown up decision to dedicate one third of the board for whatever I want to do with it.  At first it was drawing random pictures that I would add to during the week, and lately it’s been quotes.

This picture started out with just an island, a tree, a few sharks, and a boy but quickly evolved to include a mermaid, turtle, monkey, alligator, several monkeys, a boat, an umbrella, and a rainbow rescue to end the week on a happy note.  IMG_0102 IMG_0101

Phone Pics September 012 Phone Pics September 013My job can be very stressful and even a 5 minute coloring break helps to calm me down.  I sometimes worry it’s childish but no one has called me out on it and it’s not like I’m slacking on my job to create these masterpieces 😉   If my boss tells me I can’t draw on my board anymore I’ll give it up but until that happens I’m going to keep on coloring.

This week the quotes really helped.  I try to pick ones that will inspire other people and fit into my job but I also use them to keep myself motivated.  My office mate suggested I should be an art teacher or do something creative for a career but I love my career path and I obviously find outlets for my creativity.  Next week I’m exploring an opportunity to combine the two so I’m excited about that but for now I’m going to start my relaxing weekend! 😀 FullSizeRender (37)FullSizeRender (36)IMG_0059IMG_0072

Awwww… this is adorable… I wish I had a whiteboard at work where I could do this as well. I think it would lighten up our office so much!!

Thanks! 🙂 My job deals with really serious issues so lightening up sometimes is necessary and people seem to like it

It’s the small things that bring something positive to a space, makes it easier to deal with the hard stuff.

There should always be time for coloring!! At my last job, I had some horribly monotonous phone work most days, so I started out keeping myself occupied during phone calls with making paper snowflakes. Then I made paper chains to decorate my workspace. Then I found other little crafty things. Then I started bringing in coloring pages and markers. People made fun of me but they loved the stuff I created, and now adult coloring is a thing. There should always be room for creativity at work! I hope you get to keep doing this!!

I think a creative outlet is good! I love the paper snowflakes, might have to try that as it gets closer to Christmas 🙂
