Monday, Monday

Laying in bed this morning I was avoiding getting up when I received a phone call.  The eye appointment I made on Friday for today was with an optometrist that doesn’t do contact fittings…..even though I put in my appointment request “I need my yearly exam and to be fitted for new contacts.”  😡

I was immediately annoyed not just with about the eye appointment but everything.

This tiny glitch in my plan for the week threw off my whole morning.  I think I was just so pleased to potentially be getting new contacts before I leave for training but instead I have to wait.  I still have some contacts and my glasses but I’m overdue for my exam so it would’ve been nice to get it done.

This morning I took the approach of a rational grownup and thought, “I needed to get this done and now I can’t so the whole day is ruined.  I hate everything.”  I threw a mini tantrum and contemplated just going back to bed.

Thankfully a cup of coffee and a cute cat video from Facebook reversed my attitude.

Thanks to a cup of caffeine and Boots the cat I realized that the day is not lost and I should be grateful that it’s a Monday at 8:00AM and I don’t have to be at work.  I realized I could’ve spent my whole day watching cat videos if that’s what I choose but I decided I should be at least semi-productive.

I went to Target to buy jeans and 8 other things I don’t really need because it’s inevitable when you go to Target.  The rest of the day has been cleaning, not fun but it needs done (Ha Ha, that rhymes).  I have a cat sitter/apartment watcher coming over so I need to make sure my place is decently clean plus I’ll be home on the weekends for about one day so I want the place to be clean.

It’s going to be weird living in a hotel for so many weeks.  I’m still a bit nervous about training but I’m also excited.  Most of the people who’ve gone through it tell me how much fun I’ll have and that I’ll meet lots of new people.  One of the guys I work with said it would be lonely because I’m not going with anyone else from my area and I won’t know anyone.  He’s kind of negative.

I’m really not worried about being lonely because I’ll be in training all day and I know how to entertain myself but ultimately I think I’ll make friends.  Also, I’ll be in a new city so it’ll be fun to explore the area.  I’ve already started looking for parks nearby so I can hopefully go for walks in the evening.

That’s all I’ve got.  This week is going to fly by so I’m going to enjoy the rest of the last day of my 4 day weekend, especially since most of it was spent curled up on the couch sick.

Happy Monday!  Here’s to the start of a great week!

Random Health Topic-Asbestos

A few weeks ago I wrote about superfoods in my Meal Plan Monday post and I wanted to follow up that post with another post.

What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally-occurring mineral that possesses excellent insulating and heat-shielding properties. Because of this, it has long been used in a variety of products, including building materials like insulation, gaskets, floor and ceiling tiles, and drywall tape, as well as in automotive products such as brake pads and shoes and clutch plates

Asbestos left alone poses a lesser risk than when its is damaged. This is because the fibers release into the air and can be easily inhaled into the body. They can get trapped inside, causing tumors to grow. No matter the amount of exposure, asbestos can still put you at risk for developing a form of cancer known as mesothelioma.

When approached to write about this topic I wondered, “Why should I write about this?”  I’m sure some of my regular readers are also thinking this seems a bit random even for me but I have my reasons and I’ll start with the biggest one.

My primary motivation for writing about this is I know all types of cancer are terrible.  I’ve experienced several types within my immediate family and within my workplace.  There’s no one type of cancer deserving of more attention than another and if I can share information to help prevent someone from getting cancer or simply bring awareness to a lesser known type of cancer then it was worth it.

I chose to write about this because of the reason above plus my concern about some of the other buildings I work and live.  Buildings that could possibly contain asbestos and while I’m not going to start wearing a mask, launch into frenzied panic, or excessively preach the dangers to my coworkers I am going to be aware.

This apartment was built in the 90’s but I know I’ve looked at older places.  It’s good to remember to ask a landlord about when the apartments were built, when was the last remodel, and if the building has been tested for asbestos (this last question primary for older buildings).  I’ll definitely be revisiting this information when I start apartment hunting at the end of the summer, as well as when I do finally take that plunge to actually purchase a home.  That of course is very far into the future, first I have to figure out what I want to be when I grow up and where I want to live for an extended period of time.

Below is a checklist that can help to remember some of the main points to W.A.T.C.H for in the home.

One Lovely Blog Award

**Updated** 😀

I wanted to say a very belated thank you to Saving and Scrimping for the nomination.  A draft was created then I got busy then I forgot then I remembered 😀  Seriously, thank you!

# Each nominee must thank the person who nominated them and link their blog in the post.

# They must include the rules and add the blog award badge as an image.

# Must add 7 facts about you

# Then nominate at least 5 people and let them know by commenting on their blog!

I’m going to use some basic information for my facts and throw in some that have probably been used before because I’m too lazy to go back through my posts to see what facts I’ve used in the past.

  1.  My name is Tasha.
  2. I love stickers.  I feel like I have more stickers in my apartment than any grown up should have on hand.
  3. I consider myself liberal but I have a serious conservative side to my personality.
  4. I have a black cat named James the cat.  He’s poly dactyl, which means he has extra toes and looks like he has thumbs (See pic below).
  5. I love vinyl records.  At least once a week I’m pulling out an album to listen to on my record player.
  6. I buy cards that play music for almost every occasion, birthdays, thank you, just because, everything….They’re so entertaining.
  7. I paint my nails once a week.

I’m going to skip the nominations this time around but will say that everyone reading this right now is deserving, as well as all the wonderful blogs I read.

That’s all I’ve got for now.  I was supposed to be on the other side of the mountains this weekend but an illness left me curled up on the couch 😦  It sucked!  Today is the first day this weekend I’ve actually started to feel back to normal again, although I am going to go against what I want to do and take it easy today.  It’s tough because I’m starting to feel a little stir crazy but I know I don’t want to rush and end up sick again…so I’m reluctantly doing nothing today.

Actually, that’s a lie because I did break down and walk to the store to pick up eggs and a dye kit so I can color eggs today.  I do it every year and was going to skip this year but it felt wrong to skip it so that’s the one thing I’ll be doing today.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend!

Happy Easter!!
