No Cake for Me

When I walked into the unit meeting and saw the cake the first thing I noticed was the grammar error, “Your the greatest” *heavy sigh*

I realized I had a decision to make, cake or no cake.  She didn’t cut the cake until the end of the meeting so I had 45 minutes to stare at it’s delicious frostiness before uttering the words, “No thank you.  No cake for me.”  Right after that I came up with the clever rhyme of, “I won’t partake in a cake with a grammar mistake”  XD

It felt good to resist and make the decision to not indulge simply because cake was in front of me.  Plus I didn’t go to the gym yesterday and except for Sunday when I tried to binge eat a hangover away I’ve been doing good with my eating.  It was tempting though especially when I saw it was marble inside, vanilla with swirls of chocolate….it looked amazing.

I resisted and made it to the gym today for 2 miles in 35 minutes.  Trivia was cancelled tonight so I had to figure out dinner on the fly so I cheated and picked up a salad mix because it sounded good.

My plans to binge watch Orange is the New Black this weekend might be delayed by a brunch and a hike.  I feel like such a posh grown up when I say, “I have a brunch to attend on Saturday.”  but in reality I’m more like this…

My friend suggested a hike after brunch and some part of me was like but “The new season of  Orange is the New Black premiers this weekend but I didn’t realize that when I made brunch plans 2 weeks ago.  I’m already missing out on hours of binging time with brunch and now you want to add a hike?”  I then realized I would have Friday night, Saturday night, and all day Sunday to watch my show and some outdoor time will be good.

I was going to call this a random midweek post but it’s only Tuesday!  Yikes!

I guess it’s not that bad because Wednesday is right around the corner, right? 😀  I better get this posted before we lose power because the storm is getting serious.  I’m thinking no trivia tonight was meant to be because I would not have wanted to drive in this torrential downpour and crazy winds.

Meal Plan Monday

Last week I was “Never Skip Monday” and this week I’m like, “Skipping Monday is A-Okay” 😀

Maybe it’s not a-okay but I’m sore and exhausted for some reason so I’m spending the night with my heating pad.  My plan of attack is to leave work early tomorrow since I didn’t get a lunch today (basically ate in the car on the way to the other location where I work) so that I can go to the gym and shower before trivia.  I feel kind of guilty for skipping but I plan to go Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday this week plus I’ll do some walking in place tonight.

I put on a pot of water to boil to make some pasta tonight for day 1 of my meal plan.  Today’s lunch was grapes, string cheese, and a wrap with turkey and avocado hummus.  That will probably be my #1 purchase from Costco going forward, Hope Avocado hummus.  It’s so delicious!!!

My go-to lunch items are wraps with lunch meat, veggies, fruits, and string cheese.  I’m trying this week to prep everything the night before so on mornings like today, where I decide to sleep until I only have 30 minutes to get ready, I can just grab and go.  I’m also going to use some of my leftovers from dinners this week.

Tonight I’m going to make some extra pasta to make a cold pasta salad to take with me tomorrow and Wednesday I’m going to make extra rice for Thursday’s dinner.  I want to try to do this more often especially since I’m trying to go to the gym 4 nights a week.  This is prepping made easy.  If I’m already cooking pasta or rice it’s not a big deal to make a bit more so I have extra on hand for other meals.  Simple and easy.

The new season of Orange is the New Black premiers this weekend and I can’t even lie I will be binging this show from the time I get home on Friday until probably Saturday evening when I will slip into a depression when I realize it’s over until next year.

I figured that kind of binge deserves pizza and salad.

 

On a more serious note……..

Hope everyone made it through Monday.  It was a rough day and I’m sure I’m not the only one who kept finding their thoughts drifting to the friends and families of the victims of the Orlando shooting.  It breaks my heart to be reminded of how hate still exists in the world but keeping to the more positive stories in the news I’m also reminded of how people come together following a tragedy.  This quote from Mr. Rogers has become one of my favorites and something I try to remind myself of following scary news.

Weekend Wrap up

Last week I walked 79,127 steps.

That’s 32.96 miles.

I went to the gym 4 days last week.

I had 271 active minutes. (Periods of moderate activity for 10 min. or more)

I came in 5th in the Workweek Hustle Challenge but I had 11,477 more steps than the previous week and I only missed 4th place by 35 steps.

By the time I arrived home on Friday night I was feeling it a little bit.  My feet and legs were sore plus I just felt tired.  I almost cancelled my plans for Saturday but a good night’s sleep and a few cups of coffee had me ready to go.

A friend and I went to a Farmers Market in her town.  It was tiny with only about 6-7 booths, definitely not the sprawling event I was expecting but we checked it out then walked down by the waterfront to get in some steps.  The weather said rain but the sun stayed out and it ended up being a nice day to be outside.

We took a trip to Costco and as an employee she gets free memberships for a certain number of people, so I was selected as one of those people.  Yay!  I picked up a few things yesterday but plan to go on a field trip during the week just to see what’s available and what items would be good for me to buy in bulk.  When you’re single buying in bulk seems overwhelming but some items it makes sense plus many perishables can be frozen.

I’m working on my meal plan for this next week and plan to have that post up tomorrow night.  Pasta salads are what I’m craving so I bought some ingredients and I’m going to be experimenting.

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!  As usual, I feel like it went by way too fast but I’m ready to start the week.  The sooner we get into it the sooner we’re back to the weekend! 😉   I’m off to enjoy watching the Tony’s.  I love musicals and with James Corden hosting it should be a great show.
