A Night out & A Walk on the Freeway

The plans for Friday night went back and forth from Thursday right up until late Friday afternoon.  Original plan was karaoke, then it was watching movies at someone’s house, then karaoke was back on, then it was going out but no karaoke, then it was back to watching movies, then karaoke again….finally it was settled.  No karaoke, just bars then a movie, whew!

I was mostly just trying to figure out if I needed to dress up or if I could wear my sweats 🙂

We went to a couple different bars enjoying drinks and playing giant jenga.  Going out to the bars sometimes makes me feel old but we had fun and I used Uber for the first time (it’s amazing).  FullSizeRender (61).jpg

I definitely drank too much, which I hate but I did it to myself.  We had drinks after the bar and went to bed in the wee hours of the morning.  A late night meant a late start to the next day.  We were barely even alive before 10AM and our plans to go for a walk were definitely up in the air since both of us were suffering from major headaches.  We even made frozen pizza for breakfast because neither of us wanted to cook and we were hurting too bad to actually go out, lol.

Our walking plans were almost cancelled but finally in the afternoon we pulled ourselves together enough to get out of the house.  The plan was to walk part of the trail on I-90 so I could get a picture of Mt. Rainier, unfortunately it was too cloudy to see it.  I still enjoyed the walk and look forward to trying again on a less cloudy day.

We were definitely hurting but the fresh air was good and I felt a sense of accomplishment once were done.  It was much better than laying on the couch all day.  We walked through part of Mercer Island, admiring mansions along the way, then walked along the freeway.

Plus look at all those steps and active minutes!

I’m trying to up my weekly steps every week and the goal for next week is 60,000.  I’m in a workweek hustle competition (who can get the most steps in 5 days) so I think that will provide some motivation.

I don’t know how many steps I’ll get in today.  I’m sore from yesterday and still feeling tired from my night out, definitely how I know I’m getting old….it takes 2 days to recover from 1 night out, ha ha XD

I did go to the grocery store and cleaned my apartment early this morning so at least I can say I accomplished something today.  Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

Social Butterfly?

I haven’t completely abandoned my hermit ways but I continue to make efforts to be more social and more active.

I skipped Friday night karaoke because Friday was a hell day at work and all I wanted to do was be on my own for the night.  I was not feeling social plus I knew I had plans to keep me busy all day Saturday.

A hike was scheduled for Saturday morning.  I like to get out early and our plan was late morning, 9:30 but my friend did not skip Friday night karaoke so she asked for a later start time so she could get a bit more sleep.  At 10:30 we were heading down the trail.  It was myself, my best friend, and her friend from work with her baby.

We had a bit of a rough start as I didn’t check the map very well and wasn’t sure which trail to take so we did about 45 minutes of walking down trails that led to the road or the parking lot then backtracking to try to find a real trail.  Thankfully we found our way to a trail that actually led us into the woods.  The trail was flat so not very challenging but still it’s always nice to be outside exploring and a 5 mile walk is good for the weekend.  1 walkway 2I love finding these little walkways.  It always feels like finding a little treasure in the forest.  The walk was a great mix of open areas and dark forest areas.  It lacked a specific destination or viewpoint to hike toward but I enjoyed the trail and it’s one I would walk again.  It’s also a bike trail but we didn’t encounter tons of bikers so that was nice.

I was a little nervous when I heard a baby was coming on the hike but she was adorable and did great.  She got a little fussy toward the end but we’d been out walking for a couple hours so it was understandable.  It was actually her first hike and she seemed to love it.

Later that night I went to an Anti-Valentines Day party with my best friend.  It was okay.  I thought there would be more games or stuff to encourage interaction but it was mostly people standing around in little groups having conversations in two different rooms.  I’m probably just being too judgy….it’s what I do.

I did have a few drinks there then stayed at my friend’s place and had a couple more drinks then of course woke up with a monster hangover.  I’ll avoid making the proclamation of “I’m never going to drink again” but it’ll be awhile because I lost pretty much a whole day yesterday.  We went to breakfast in the morning where I received a meal that fed me all day, it was a full three meals worth of food so I got my money’s worth out of that meal.

After gorging on my hangover meal (the bread was homemade and I could’ve eaten a whole loaf it was good) I drove home then spent the majority of my day on the couch napping.  It felt like such a waste of the day but every time I thought about doing something my body protested.

Other than my wasted day yesterday, it was a great weekend but my weekend isn’t over yet because today is a holiday!  I was planning to go out for a walk but it’s been pouring rain all day, not just sprinkling, pouring so I’m going with option #2.  Option #2 is taking myself out to a movie with one of my free movie passes.

I’ve been wanting to see The Revenant because it looks good and I’m attempting to see as many of the Oscar nominated movies I can before I submit my choices.  I have the family ballot that we do every year then this year there’s a pool at work and I’m determined to win everything 😉

I’m proud of myself for keeping up with my efforts to be more social and more active.  It’s easy to be a hermit but I’m having fun exploring my new area.

I should have a Meal Plan post up later today but we’ll see how the day goes.

Happy Monday!  🙂

Cougar Mountain

As promised, a hiking post 🙂

The weekend before last I had a quick overnight trip across the state and decided to fly.  This meant either I pay for parking or find someone to provide transportation to and from the airport.

Thankfully I have an amazing friend who lives not too far from the airport and was willing to drop me off and pick me up…..with 3 conditions.

  1.  I owe her a trip to the airport.  This is pretty standard in any friendship when transportation to the airport is required.
  2. I buy lunch, not one of the conditions but it was part of the offer in convincing her.
  3. I go on a hike with her and a coworker on Sunday after she picks me up.

My flight was only an hour so I figured a hike would be okay plus I was assured it would only be a few miles, nothing too crazy.  I don’t think either of us counted on an almost 6 mile excursion up, down, and all around through the woods.  By the end I was almost hobbling to the car and had developed a cough.  I was cold and wet (it started raining on the way back down) but proud that I hadn’t given up.

There was a point where I thought I wasn’t going to be able to go on but I persevered.  I really did think they would need to just leave me on this bench and I would camp out until they came back, not a bad place to hang out but I knew I needed to keep moving.  1 A Seat

The trail was so much fun and there were great little bridges all throughout, some more stable than others.

One of my favorite parts was this little walkway

It wound around the rocks and over a little bit of water.  I was grateful to the people leading the way who found the wobbly board so I didn’t end up in the mud XD

Overall it was a great hike!  It was part of a series of trails on Cougar Mountain near Issaquah, Washington.  I love it because it means there’s more great trails we can come back to explore.  We didn’t have much of a destination when we set out on the trail but wound up at Doughty Falls (featured image).  Not the most impressive waterfall but a pretty little scene.

I’m planning another hike for this weekend and will be researching some tonight.  I’m thinking it won’t be anything too intense because it took me 2 days to recover from the last hike.  That first day after the hike I could barely walk and don’t think I’ve ever been so sore but sometimes I think it’s good to be sore.  You get sore, you recover, and you’re reminded that you are capable of pushing yourself to overcome new challenges.

This last pic is another favorite.  Just a tiny waterfall 🙂  We’re almost to Friday!
